The truth is that the sales volume may have little to do with how good the book really is!
The marketing people are the ones that will make or break your dream. Someone in the system needs to tell the book buying people about your book. The more you are known the greater the amount of money that will be provided by the publishers and booksellers to promote a new book. For the first time writer, the funds for marketing will mostly come from the writer’s pocket.
It is not the end of the world. There are many things you can do to promote your book. The imagination is the limiting factor. People hear about books through book launches, guest speakers, writers markets, school visits, newspaper advertisements, market stalls and a host of other off-line and online ways. You might be fortunate and have a publisher purchase a book and come to you. It has happened before.
Giving away free books has also been a successful way of generating interest.
Nevertheless, do not be discouraged. If you love reading and you love writing, you will continue in the field. The opportunity to entertain or teach others through writing is the thought that spurs many writers to continue. There is nothing wrong in writing a good book and there is nothing wrong in making a million dollars from your work.
